The Egle wreck, located off the coast of Villasimius in Sardinia, is one of the most fascinating dive sites in the area. This ship was built in Italy in 1907 and was originally intended for commercial freight transport. The Egle, a steam-powered cargo vessel, was part of a fleet that sailed the Mediterranean, carrying various goods.

During World War II, the ship was requisitioned by the Italian Royal Navy for military transport. On May 12, 1943, while off the Sardinian coast, the Egle was attacked by a British aircraft, a bomber from the Royal Air Force. The attack caused an explosion on board, leading to the ship's rapid sinking. Fortunately, most of the crew managed to escape, but the Egle disappeared into the depths, where it still lies today.

Today, the wreck rests at a depth of about 18-24 meters and has become a natural habitat for a rich variety of marine life. The wreck is well-preserved and offers divers the chance to explore the ship's structures, including the deck and remnants of the cabins. The clear waters of Villasimius provide excellent visibility, making this dive particularly appealing and accessible even to less experienced divers.

The Egle is a symbol of a tumultuous past, transformed over time into a refuge of natural beauty, offering a unique opportunity for diving enthusiasts to immerse themselves in both history and nature.
